چکیده

A free-space optical communication system using non-mode-selective photonic lantern (PL) based coherent receiver is studied. Based on the simulation of photon distribution, power distribution at single-mode fiber end PL quantitatively described as a truncated Gaussian over simplex. The signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), bit-error rate (BER), and outage probability selection combining (SC), equal-gain (EGC), maximal-ratio (MRC) Gamma-Gamma turbulence channels are analyzed compared with (SMF) multimode (MMF) receiver. We demonstrate that EGC most suitable for because has limited influence BER when used can greatly affect SC used. Numerical results show requires 6 dB less SNR than SMF 5.5 MMF 10 ?6 in moderate turbulence.

Mode-Selective Fiber Laser Using a Photonic Lantern

We experimentally demonstrate a transverse mode-selective fiber laser using a photonic lantern. The output modes of laser are switchable among the 6 LP modes supported by the gain fiber. Their slope efficiency, optical spectra, and mode profiles are measured. Introduction Large mode-area optical fiber can support highorder of linear polarization (LP) modes. There are many motivations for produc...

Demonstration of free space coherent optical communication using integrated silicon photonic orbital angular momentum devices.

We propose and demonstrate silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for free-space spatial-division-multiplexing (SDM) optical transmission with multiplexed orbital angular momentum (OAM) states over a topological charge range of -2 to +2. The silicon PIC fabricated using a CMOS-compatible process exploits tunable-phase arrayed waveguides with vertical grating couplers to achieve space divis...

Terrestrial Coherent Free-Space Optical Communication Systems

In the past three decades, the demand for high-speed communications has increased dramatically, while fiber optical communications has been applied in the majority of data transmission networks. Optical fiber has advantages over existing copper wire in long distance and high demand applications. The ever increasing need for higher bandwidth and higher speed optical data and communications trans...

Mode-selective amplification in a large mode area Yb-doped fiber using a photonic lantern.

We demonstrate selective spatial mode amplification in a few mode, double-clad Yb-doped large mode area (LMA) fiber, utilizing an all-fiber photonic lantern. Amplification to multi-watt output power is achieved while preserving high spatial mode selectivity. We observe gain values of over 12 dB for all modes: LP01, LP11a, and LP11b, when amplified individually. ...

Incremental adaptive networks implemented by free space optical (FSO) communication

The aim of this paper is to fully analyze the effects of free space optical (FSO) communication links on the estimation performance of the adaptive incremental networks. The FSO links in this paper are described with two turbulence models namely the Log-normal and Gamma-Gamma distributions. In order to investigate the impact of these models we produced the link coefficients using these distribu...
